Alex Morss
At heart, I am a naturalist.
I am an independent ecologist, journalist, author and educator. My work is about defending wildlife, promoting conservation, and creating opportunities for people to make exciting discoveries about the natural world.
I do that through writing, editing, advising, teaching, surveying, researching, and producing content on nature, science, conservation and environment. I work with conservation charities, NGOs, private and public sector organisations, and media.
My particular passions are bats, botany, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians — and all the less-loved, vulnerable, and wonderfully weird creatures that need a voice.

Three decades writing and editing for national newspapers, magazines and books. I translate complex science into clear, compelling stories that appeal to a wide range of audiences, from children and the general public to top-level policy decision makers.

Workshops, talks, and field sessions for children and adults — from school programmes to community events — designed to spark genuine curiosity about the living world.

Co-author and editor of award-winning children's nature books. I bring scientific rigour and narrative warmth together, making ecology accessible and joyful for all ages.
Qualifications
Training & credentials
- Degrees and postgraduates in biology, ecology and environmental science
- NCTJ postgraduate in Newspaper Journalism
- FISC-certificated botanist
- Specialist survey methods: plants, mammals, invertebrates, birds, reptiles, amphibians
- Extensive UK fieldwork; experience in tropical and Mediterranean habitats
